According to media reports, India had warned Myanmar about the path of the Cyclone Nargis well in advance. And yet, there was devastation.
The U.N. now estimates 1.5 million people have been “severely affected” by the cyclone that hit last Saturday. Those include 1 million homeless, at least 42,000 missing and more than 22,000 killed in high winds, floods and tidal waves.
In another report, foreign aid workers have been deported
“As such, Myanmar is not ready to receive search and rescue teams as well as media teams from foreign countries.”
If the country’s ruling junta knew about the cyclone and its path, they knew the places it would be striking, and yet did not apparently take preventive measures, what does it really imply?
