First, a big thanks to all those who participated in this exercise of gfinding the greatest rock and roll song. With over 80% of the votes, the title goes to “Stairway to Heaven”

Recorded exactly 35 years ago in December 1970, Stairway To Heaven became one of the most frequently requested songs in America. The lyrics are partly inspired from the book “Magic Arts in Celtic Britain” by Lewis Spence which mentions “May queens” and “bustling hedgerows”

As a tribute to Robert Plant’s lyrics and vocals, Jimmy Page later on never performed this on his own. He would only do his guitar bit as an instrumental piece during his live shows.
