Yorktown Technologies of Austin, Texas has launched the first genetically engineered fish that glows. Called “GloFish”, it is being launched in the market at $5 per fish. Member of the zebra fish family, it has a gene of a sea coral that makes its skin glow red under normal light and fluroescent under ultraviolet light.

While environmentalists have been on the job claiming biological pollution, Yorktown technologies claim that as an ornamental fish, GloFish poses no harm to the environment.

We will have to see how many people pick up this new pet.
