The Meteors did it
It was a meteor that did in the dinosaurs 65 million years ago. It was another meteor that did in those species existing 251 million years ago. That extinction, known as “The Great Dying” wiped out almost 90% of all the species on planet earth. This period, 250 million years ago is known as the Permian-Triassic Age.
Following up from findings of some ancient asteroid in China by Luann Becker two years ago, Dr. Asish Basu, professor of earth and environmental studies at the University of Rochester, has found more concrete evidence in Antarctica.
The concept of asteroid hitting earth has been graphically dramatised in movies like Armageddon and Deep Impact. According to scenarios developed by researchers, an asteroid of diameter 10-14 km can cause the enxtinction of almost 90% of life on earth.
