Konark

The Sun Temple of Konark is a place of interest not just for the religious minded but also for those interested in history, art and legends. This is my third visit to Konark. Each time I have gone, I have seen something new. Information and trivia about the temple abounds on the Net and therefore I need not go through it all.

The photos of Konark are on my Picasa web account and you are invited to view them.

I will present a couple of photos here with my thoughts and impressions.

I reached at about 5.45 pm. The sun was still up but behind a thick layer of rain clouds. In fact, it was drizzling (boondabaandi, as they say in DD News Hindi). The first photo I took as I entered with whatever daylight was still available. The second one was taken as I was leaving, about 6.45 pm, the sun had gone down, the sky was dark blue almost black and the illumination bulds were on. I never use flash. So what you see is the ambient light as it was.

I was reading about Leonardo Da Vinci’s observations on colour and how colours vary with perspective. This shot features three parts of the temple complex, taken from the rear end. A mix of clouded diffused sunlight, some surface halogen lights and a couple of sodium lights have created this hue mix. Again, no flash.
