Konark: 27th June 2008

Konark is on the East Coast of India in the state of Orissa. It is of course famous for the Sun temple, a temple built in the form a chariot for the sun. It is aligned in the East-West direction. An architectural marvel is the alignment of all the structures with the movement of the sun in the sky. Each of the 24 wheels is also a sundial and gives accurate time, whichever the season.

Konkan: 14th – 17th August 2008

The Konkan Coast is characterised by its jagged nature with alternating promontories and coves, beaches and rock formations, hills and plains. Ratnagiri is easily the biggest town in the Konkan (one is not considering Mumbai) has a deep history to it, being the birth place of Lokmanya Tilak, the place of exile of the last King of Burma, Thebaw and site of Ratnadurg a prominent fort of the Marathas. It is also a large port. Two prominent beaches developed by MTDC are Ganpatipule and Tarkarli

Ganpatipule is 20km north of Ratnagiri while Tarkarli is about 6km south of Malvan. Visit the links to find out more about this place and our own experiences.
